Much of what reaches us arrives as a component with no paperwork — a cylinder, a pump, a valve block — and someone has to work out exactly what it is before anything can be quoted.
That is this role. You will measure and assess hydraulic components, identify seal kits and internals from bore, rod diameter, stroke and port configuration, and advise whether a rebuild or a replacement is the sensible call.
You will also be the technical backstop for the sales team: the person they bring the difficult enquiries to, and the one who confirms that what we are about to quote will actually fit.
This suits someone who has spent real time on the tools and wants to keep using that knowledge without being under a machine every day.
What you will be doing
- Assess and measure hydraulic cylinders, pumps, motors and valves
- Identify seal kits and internals from physical dimensions
- Advise on rebuild versus replacement
- Provide technical support to the sales team on complex enquiries
- Verify incoming parts against specification before dispatch
- Support customers with fitting and commissioning questions
What we are looking for
- 5+ years hands-on hydraulic repair on cranes or heavy equipment
- Able to identify components from measurement rather than part number
- Understanding of hydraulic schematics and circuit function
- Methodical, with genuinely accurate measuring and recording habits
- Trade certificate or equivalent practical qualification
