Wind is the environmental limit that most often stops a lift, and the load chart assumes wind speed is known rather than estimated. A wireless anemometer puts a real reading in front of the operator and the lift supervisor at the same time.
Mounting the sensor at the boom head with a wireless link removes the cable that traditional systems run along the boom — the part that chafes, snags during reeving and eventually fails. The sensor is IP-67 rated and battery powered; the handheld receiver shows current and peak wind speed on a large display and sounds a 90 dB alarm at a user-set threshold, over a transmission range of up to 500 metres.
Systems are supplied with the sensor, receiver, mounting hardware and batteries, and can be moved between machines as required — which makes them equally suited to rental fleets and to sites where a single supervisor monitors several lifts.
