Scarlet Tech manufactures wireless wind monitoring systems designed specifically for lifting operations, replacing the cable-type anemometers that traditionally ran a signal line the full length of the boom.
The boom-head sensor is IP-67 rated and battery powered, transmitting to a handheld receiver at ranges up to 500 metres. The receiver displays current and peak wind speed on a large screen and sounds a 90 dB alarm at a user-set threshold, so both the operator and the lift supervisor are working from the same reading.
With no cable to chafe, snag during reeving or fail at the connector, the system is markedly more reliable in service — and because it is self-contained, it can be moved between machines, which suits rental fleets and multi-crane sites.
